Learn the art of Kintsugi Artweek 6 October

Posted by Fiona Cable on

Learn the art of Kintsugi. Join a workshop here at Railway Street Gallery.

Kintsugi (also known as Kintsukuroi) which loosely translates to 'Golden Joinery' is the age-old Japanese art form of repairing broken ceramics in a way that is often considered more beautiful than when it was when whole. This ancient technique is a true celebration of 'Wabi Sabi', the aesthetic appreciation of the broken, old or disregarded.

Astute Assembly, Yuka O'Shannessy and Yoko Shimoyama, will take you through easy step-by-step instructions on how to piece back together your broken ceramics with lacquer and golden powder. Email janina@railwaystreetstudios.co.nz with your phone number. Bring a broken piece of ceramic. $60, materials included.

This event is part of ARTWEEK 2018, 6 October, 10 - 12pm or 2 - 4pm

  • You can buy the kit at the end of your session (optional).
  • Please bring your own broken piece (not too complicated one!)

Limited number of places are available for this session, so be quick !
