Jo Dalgety is captivated by the history of people, the layers of life over time. It's the thought of all those who have walked over and lived on that land. How does the land hold memories and can they be embodied in a work that features few human forms? She rarely paints places she hasn't seen and been to herself. Her work starts from the real and she breaks it down into its simpler elements, using their power to remember the feeling of that place.
Dalgety paints in oil and watercolour. More recently, she's been exploring collage using her watercolour & charcoal paintings, making fresh work and fresh views of landscape. Recycling if you like. She chose collage, using older paintings, in the 100 Day Project, and has continued with this technique, discovering that a work that didn’t quite make the cut can become something new.
