A considered view of the botanical world. A visual perspective and an historical enquiry.
While I don’t consider myself a botanical photographer, I have been mentioned in this role in print before. I do photograph a broad range of subject matter, as much as botanicals, but I guess it is fair to say that flowers and I have a love story.
My family is originally from the Netherlands and I am influenced culturally by the Dutch Golden Age and Renaissance painters.
I feel very close to this aesthetic naturally and my artistic work draws a lot from this influence.
You can feel my passion for Dutch Masters such as Willem van Aelst, in my work. Particularly in the way I use light and textures.
My passion for working with something organic and unpredictable is intuitive. From both a creative and technical perspective, I’ve learnt a lot through this new way of telling a visual story.
