Dalit – to split, to crack, to remain invisible
Glass beads, hand loomed cotton, rickshaw canopy canvas

I saw two men - each holding a cane basket, and a metal pole a with scoop-like attachment on one end. With their faces wrapped in dirty rags they disappeared down a street manhole only for me to find out later they were Dalits, considered to be of the lowest birth – a caste delegated to the unblocking and cleaning of public sewers.
Feel free to lift the covering.
