Much of this body of work was completed under the restrictions of Covid 19 when the world seemed simultaneously both safer and smaller, AND out of control.
McGregor’s paintings are driven by the process of covering up and wiping off paint; a search for a new image that is beyond herself, beyond rational thinking. The process echoes the current environment - there remains always a tension between the building up and the breaking down, the built form and the entropy which seems inevitably on its way.
