Maggie McGregor

Maggie McGregor's recent work explores dichotomies - of chaos and containment, fragility and form, light and dark; and is often triggered by daily news about the current state of our social and physical world. The work explores the nature of painting itself as a mechanism to control and contain and she finds resonance in Picasso's description of art:  " as a form of magic, designed as a mediator between this strange and hostile world and us, a way of seizing the power by giving form to our terrors as well as our desires".

Drawing is an important part of her work and she has recently been a finalist in the Parkin Drawing Prize. Her work is held in private collections in New Zealand and overseas.
