Bream Head to Cape Colville - Guy Harkness opens 8 June

A New Zealand artist, living and working in Auckland’s Mount Eden, Guy paints mostly in oil and acrylic on canvas or board. His artworks include local landscapes, portraits, still lifes and subjects which are intrinsically part of our culture and history.

This exhibition features a number of recent landscapes – a genre which Guy has explored throughout his artistic career. Named after the well known audio track from our Metservice marine forecast, ‘Bream Head to Cape Colville’ presents a series of familiar landmarks that have found a home in our collective sub-conscious.

At one level, our recognition of these landscapes creates a common currency based on shared experience. At another, our memories of each place influence our individual reaction to each piece. This is Guy’s first exhibition of works following a single theme.
