Katie Robinson

Katie Robinson is a painter based in Central Otago whose work is shaped by observation of the everyday. With a background in science, she is drawn to geology, plant and animal life, as well as to the objects, places, and animals that hold meaning for people — the things they live with and care for.
Growing up, she was surrounded by people who collected and held onto precious objects, an experience that shaped her understanding of how deeply meaning can attach itself to things.
Now living in Central Otago, where her ancestors also lived and where she visited frequently growing up, Katie’s practice is deeply rooted in this landscape. Living here continues to inform how she experiences place, memory, and belonging.
Her paintings move between quirky interiors and expansive landscapes, using colour and texture as a visual language to capture not just what a place looks like, but how it feels.
