Tina Frantzen
Tina Frantzen’s art practice covers painting, photography, writing and poetry.
Whatever medium she uses her works are intuitive and spontaneous, capturing ephemeral moments in a way that hints of a deeper meaning than the image itself represents. She expresses what she feels, not what she sees.
Her figurative paintings that are created by the process of revealing are always a surprise for her. It’s a delight when the people reveal themselves. These paintings, as with all her works involve capturing the quality of light on an image.
She has also created and written photographic children’s books that are in the public library system, as well as books of her photography accompanied by the poetry that was inspired by the images.
Her works have been exhibited here and in Paris and in 2015 she was a finalist in the Wallace Art Awards. Several of her works are in The Art House collection.
Recently, over two years, Tina has created and managed a pop-up gallery, 250 Gallery, in Ponsonby Road. giving many artists, both developing and established, a welcoming and frequently visited venue to exhibit their works. Managing the gallery and watching it grow in respect and recognition has given Tina much pleasure.
She is also one of the judges for the North Shore Photographic Society’s competitions
Photography is another creative outlet for Tina, “It's the unexpected juxtapositions of objects and people that create fascinating and surprising images - from the seemingly mundane to the spontaneous and fleeting moments. Capturing that essence is always a delight for me"
