Jo Dalgety's practice engages with her childhood home, the Hauraki Plains, as both a site and a metaphor for human intervention in the natural world. Through the use of river mud, swamp water, and reinterpreted historical photographs, Dalgety works within and against the conventions of watercolour landscape painting to re-examine settler narratives of progress and possession. The material instability of the medium parallels the ecological and historical instability of the land itself, evoking a space of reciprocity, memory, and ethical reflection.
